Okay... I know what almost everything in that picture is... but what's the thingy to the left of the folder?

A bone scorer. When paper crafting, it's used with a straight edge to score paper before folding, ensuring a clean fold. The end that's up is the scoring end. I have no idea what the hole in the bottom is for (a hanging loop, maybe?).

But couldn't you use a convenient part (say, the point) of the folder to do the same thing?

(Well, yes, I answer myself... But then you'd have one less cool gadget on your desk. And since you've already bought the scorer, it'd be a waste not to use it.)

Well, a) it was a present, and b) the edge is much sharper and more precise than the folder. It's shaped better for holding while scoring as well.

Hmm... I suppose you're right. It's not a tool I'd have thought needed inventing, but it's quite a nice bit of kit.

It's so portable! I love watercolour pencils, and I actually prefer using the waterbrush with them.

Actually, I'd be up for a commission of such a thing. Of course, it depends on what, and if I have the materials available or findable (for example, finding an aperture that worked on that monoggle took a while to hunt down, let alone extract from the original lens). Shoot me your idea via my email, which should be in my LJ profile, and we'll see if I can swing it.
